In 2004 Sam Simmons, Sr. and Gary Courtright bought a coating business called Industrial Enterprises, Inc. from J. Walbert Gentry. Wally's health was deteriorating and he realized that he could not continue to devote the time necessary to sustain and build the business. He called a meeting of his key employees and discussed the problem. He could have sold the business, but he wanted to continue to provide a living for his employees. Sam had worked for Wally for over 20 years as the Production Manager. Gary had been the Quality Assurance Manger and Safety Director since 1995. Sam and Gary woke up the next morning with the same thought: 'Why don't we buy the business?' From the day Gary started in 1995 they 'hit it off' and over the years had formed a close friendship. Though their backgrounds and abilities were very different, they complemented one another and their Christian faith and deepest convictions were the same. They talked it over the next morning and then put the proposal out to Wally. His gentlemanly response was classic as he replied, "I'd be amenable to that!" Here was a chance to continue to serve his loyal customers and to provide a job for the workers he valued. It also represented an amazing opportunity for two employees to become owners and stewards of a business with great potential. With the mutual agreement Wally quickly started on plans to make it happen. Sam and Gary found the necessary lawyer, banker, and accountant and enlisted Wally as their consultant. Within a few months the terms had been established, financing was in place and a new business with the same employees, customers and location started operating as S & C Plastic Coating.
Sam and Gary continue to enjoy working together in and on the business from day to day. If we can help you in any way please contact us with your problem (or opportunity!). If you are in the area, please stop by. We would love to meet you, give you a tour, and find out how we may serve you.
